El Chiflon Waterfalls and Montebello Lakes National Park Day Trip from San Cristobal.
Discover two of Chiapas’ most breathtaking natural wonders in a single day!
Your adventure starts when you are picked up directly at the door of your hotel. Sit back and enjoy the scenery as you head toward El Chiflón Waterfalls. Here, a scenic path stretching almost 5,000 feet guides you alongside a turquoise river and a series of cascading falls. Hike up to the highest part of the trail to marvel at the mighty Velo de Novia (Bridal Veil), one of the tallest and most powerful waterfalls in Mexico. Tumbling 120 meters (390 feet) down a limestone cliff, its immense power sends refreshing waves of mist across the landscape.
Next, travel to Montebello Lakes National Park, established in 1959 as Chiapas' first national park and designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2009. Explore pine-oak forests surrounding pristine lakes famous for their striking colors—ranging from emerald green to deep turquoise and violet. Take in panoramic viewpoints, walk along the peaceful shorelines, and enjoy an optional traditional log raft ride (balsa) across the water.
